Sebastian Vettel spoke about his attitude towards Fernando Alonso as a person.


The drivers battled for titles in the early 2010s. Vettel retired at the end of 2022, and Alonso will take his place at Aston Martin.


I admire him as a competitor. He was probably the most difficult competitor, especially in the early years; there was a close fight between us for the titles in 2010 and 2012. These are still some of my favorite memories.


I rate Fernando very highly as a driver. I think he has enormous natural talent, incredible determination, great racing instincts, and he hasn`t lost any of it. It is clear that he loves racing and treats it with passion.


However, I hardly know him as a person. I wouldn`t say that we don`t get along - we respect each other. There just wasn`t a chance to get to know each other, spend time together or talk outside of racing.


Maybe something happened between us like with Lewis [Hamilton at the 2017 Azerbaijan Grand Prix] that would have brought us closer. Maybe we`re just too different. Racing is our common passion, but after all these years we haven`t really gotten to know each other. This happens at school or at work: there is a colleague whom you respect, but you hardly know.


Lewis and I get along, we have something to talk about, we share some views. Maybe with Fernando too, but there was never any chemistry between us. Despite our shared passion, we are probably very different, " the four-time Formula 1 champion admitted on the Beyond The Grid podcast.
